Why did ActorTrack change from software to an online application?

There are many reasons why we made the big jump from software to "webware". Here are just a few from our laundry list of reasons:

UPDATES

With "ActorTrack", doing any kind of software upgrade release was a headache. Even though we would contact our userbase about free software upgrades many failed to go to the ActorTrack site and download them.

Updates to PerformerTrack will happen often and will take place seamlessly without you having to download and install anything! When you log in you will have access to any and all newly added updates and features. All updates are included with the service!

BACK-UPS

Despite a user-friendly "Back-Up" button placed within the ActorTrack software program, countless times we heard from performers who never used it! It was with a heavy heart that we had to tell these users, whose computers had crashed or whose laptops were stolen, that their important career data was gone and unrecoverable.

No more data loss due to your computer crashing! When using PerformerTrack the career data you enter is automatically backed-up and redundantly antly stored on our secure servers!!! With PerformerTrack being online this is also added security if you live in an area prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes or floods where computer damage can occur. Also, if your computer is stolen - your data is secure from thieves!

ACCESS

One of the common requests from ActorTrack users was having the ability to use ActorTrack on more than one computer. Perhaps they had a computer at their survival job, a desktop computer at home and then a lap top computer they had access to when traveling. Like most software programs, ActorTrack came with a "single user license" which meant they were in essence "locked" to one computer only to use the program on.

Free at last! With PerformerTrack being an online application you are unteathered! Free to access your career data from any computer with an Internet connection! Whether performing on a studio lot, on location out of the country or working the "survival job" that pays for your acting class - if you need to schedule an audition, enter in you career income & expenses or want to view a contact's details, now you can!

INTERCONNECTIVITY

ActorTrack was "stand-alone" software...and we must say, it was lonely sitting there all by ourselves watching our friends with Entertainment-related businesses run their companies online.

PerformerTrack does not "stand-alone" - now that we are online we will "run with many"! PerformerTrack is poised to interconnect with other Entertainment Industry-related companies to make logging and tracking you career even easier! So get ready - we are eager to roll out this phase of the product!

COMMUNITY

ActorTrack had thousands of users worldwide, from new performers to award-winning actors. Despite having this large group of users with varying degrees of knowledge - no one was able to learn from one another.

We see big things in the near future with PerformerTrack's community of users gaining knowledge from one another. What you learn through aggregate statistics pooled from our community of users may do more than surprise you, they may actually assist you in making better informed career decisions!

PDA's & Cell Phones

ActorTrack was compatible with PDA's that ran on Palm-based operating systems. The problem was that different operating systems were released with every new cell phone/PDA that came to market. Blackberry, iPhone, Treo, etc...to keep up with the latest and greatest portable gadget was enough to make your head spin. Also, mobile phones can't run just any software. Battery life is limited, and therefore software must be designed to run inside a constrained environment with limited amounts of memory and processing power at its disposal. What you are left with is a dumbed-down, stripped version of the original software program.

UNBELIEVABLE! Not dumbed-down! Not stripped of ANY features! The whole PerformerTrack application is at your fingertips! More and more cell phones are offering (or plan to) a full Web-browsing experience like you would get on your desk top or laptop computer...all thanks to the iPhone who has lead the way! Why the name change?

The name "ActorTrack" was too limiting because of the word "Actor". The new online program is an organizational tool for more than just "Actors" - it is an application that is designed for all types of "Perfomers" (i.e. - Dancers, Models, Musicians, Voice Over Artists, etc.). Thus the name change from "ActorTrack" to "PerformerTrack"!

How is PerformerTrack different from ActorTrack?

PerformerTrack represents a major increase in the capabilities of the original program. In fact, PerformerTrack is really a completely new program with markedly more powerful and user-friendly capabilities!

What is new in PerfomerTrack?

The short (and we must admit, exciting) answer would be "all of it" – simply put, PerformerTrack is the most extreme and large-scale upgrade of the original program, ActorTrack, that we have ever released. PerformerTrack is truly, from the ground on up, a completely NEW product.

Practically every single aspect of the program has been overhauled and countless new and valuable features have been added, some of them exceptionally powerful. We have paid close attention to the feedback from our large user base and put in place all of the most demanded features, plus many functions that you may have never even dreamed of…but will not want to do without!

Think of it this way...if ActorTrack were a two-story house, we demolished it - tore up the foundation - then flattened the land... and in its place we created a world-class mansion; new foundation, plumbing, helicopter pad, Olympic size pool - you name it!

I love ActorTrack, will PerformerTrack be difficult to learn?

Don’t fear, all these advances don't mean that PerformerTrack will be unfamiliar to you…quite the opposite. Our number-one priority was to preserve the "look and feel" of the original program and its unique and intuitive design so that existing ActorTrack users will feel instantly at home when logging in to PerformerTrack!

I am happy with my ActorTrack, do I need to switch?

From it's fabulous new features to the continued growth to come in the months and years ahead, we know that switching over to the new PerformerTrack platform will benefit you greatly.

However, if you wish not to take advantage of the PerformerTrack "buy back" offer, please be aware that ActorTrack will no longer undergo any more updates or upgrades and ActorTrack's free tech support will end on January 1st, 2010.

Can I migrate my ActorTrack data into PerformerTrack?

The short answer is "no" ... but let us explain...

When we began layout and design of PerformerTrack we realized early on that importing data from current ActorTrack Users was not going to be possible.

The decision we had to make was either to create a carbon-copy of ActorTrack which would make importing information possible...or to create an even better, more user-friendly application that included enhancements suggested by our userbase as well as drastic improvements to workflow that our design team deemed "necessary".

After weighing our options the answer was a simple one, to look toward the future and create an application that was not just significantly better, but also had room to expand and grow over time.

The long and the short of it is that structural changes to the database make it not possible to import your ActorTrack information.
