How This Girl Actor Stays On Track
Reprinted from the blog
"FaffCon: Voiceover Unconference"
by Mercedes Rose

Every voice talent has a favorite part about their business…

Character work, connecting with other talent, creating a story with just your voice. Working from home in your pajamas…

We all love being self-employed. But I doubt there are many (any?) of us who’ll say we like the paper work. Does anyone think doing their taxes is the best part of a voice career? No?

I am right there with ya.

But I’ve found something that helps me keep all my ducks in a row: PerformerTrack. It's a web-based tracking program. In short, a place for you to keep track of every audition, every gig and every receipt. Of which we all hope to have hundreds every year. Gigs that is, not necessarily receipts. This program changed the way I did all my bookkeeping. I went from trying to keep everything on index cards and in my head, to having every single detail in one spot. I love being able to see my audition/booking ratio and reminders when a client is overdue.

I’ve been using it for over a year now and I have to admit doing taxes is a snap now. Although I still hate every second. At the end of the year I ask the program to separate all my expenses into categories. Now I know exactly how much I spend on equipment, parking, and everything else.

And it doesn’t just help me with my accounting. Now I can see just how awesome I am. I mean... I can keep track of how many auditions I’ve done, where they’ve come from, and what percentage I actually booked.

I’m planning on doing a little demo of how to use PerformerTrack at FaffCon. I hope you’ll come so I can show you how I’ve used it to simplify my business and analyze which activities lead to the most dollars.

So excited to see you all soon. I'll be the one slurping down the Diet Coke in the corner. (Not to be confused with Amy)
